At AGS, the safety and security of our students are our top priorities. Here are the measures we have in place to ensure a secure environment:
• Restricted Entry and Exit: Once the school begins, the gates are closed, and entry and exit are strictly regulated. A security guard is stationed at the school gate to register and monitor individuals entering the campus. Our teachers have the authority to question any unfamiliar face on campus by politely approaching them. We kindly request parents to refrain from pressuring the school to permit visits to their child’s classroom for dropping off items
• CCTV Surveillance: Our campus is equipped with a comprehensive CCTV system that monitors classrooms, corridors and common areas on every floor.
• Transport Management: With a centralized team, our drivers and attendants are continuously briefed and monitored to ensure safe transportation.
• Bus Safety: Our buses are owned by the school and operated by trained AGS staff. Each bus has a lady attendant who accompanies the students during pickup and drop-off, ensuring their safety throughout the journey.
• Child Protection Committee: We have a dedicated child protection committee working towards creating a safer school environment. Faculty members are sensitized to child protection issues.
• Emergency Preparedness: Students are regularly educated on fire evacuation procedures, and mock drills are conducted to ensure preparedness. Our staff members are trained in First Aid, and we have an inhouse nurse to manage medical emergencies.
• Safety Education: Our children are taught about good touch and bad touch, as well as safety norms, including digital citizenship, ethics, and internet safety. We encourage parents to discuss these topics with their children at home. Our entire staff is trained every year for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO)
• Lift Safety: We have lift operators to ensure the safety of students using the lift.
By implementing these measures, we strive to provide a safe and secure environment for all our students
IB-PYP vs. Other Programmes
Central Focus: Inquiry-Based Learning
• IB-PYP: Emphasizes inquiry-based learning, encouraging students to ask questions like "why?", "what?", and "how?" to explore and understand the world around them.
• Other Programme: May place greater emphasis on structured learning approaches, including memorization.
Child-Centred Approach
• IB-PYP: Highly child-centred, catering to the individual needs and interests of each student.
• Other Programmes: Often follow a more standardized curriculum with less flexibility for individual exploration.
Holistic Development
• IB-PYP: Aims for holistic development, integrating academic, social, and emotional learning.
• Other Programmes: May prioritize academic achievement over other aspects of development.
Global Perspective
• IB-PYP: Encourages a global perspective, helping students understand and appreciate different cultures and viewpoints.
• Other Programmes: May have a more localized or national focus.
Transdisciplinary Themes
• IB-PYP: Uses transdisciplinary themes to connect different subject areas, making learning more integrated and meaningful.
• Other Programmes: Typically teach subjects in isolation, without connecting them to broader themes.
Key Differences Between International and Indian Boards
Pedagogy (Teaching Methods)
• International Boards (IB-PYP, Cambridge): Emphasize inquiry-based, concept-based, and application-oriented learning. They focus on developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and research skills through child-centered and action-oriented approaches.
• Indian Boards (SSC, ICSE, CBSE): Often follow a more traditional approach with a strong emphasis on rote learning and standardized testing. The focus is on covering a broad syllabus with a structured curriculum.
Assessment and Evaluation
• International Boards: Use a variety of assessment methods, including formative assessments, projects, presentations, and reflections. The aim is to evaluate a student's understanding and application of concepts and skills, rather than just memorization.
• Indian Boards: Primarily rely on summative assessments, such as annual exams and standardized tests, to evaluate student performance. Continuous assessments are also used but are less varied compared to international boards.
Curriculum and Content
• International Boards: Offer a flexible and integrated curriculum that connects different subject areas through transdisciplinary themes. The curriculum is designed to be globally relevant and culturally inclusive.
• Indian Boards: Follow a more rigid and compartmentalized curriculum with a strong focus on core subjects like mathematics, science, and languages. The content is often aligned with national educational standards and competitive exams.
Learning Environment
• International Boards: Create a student-centred learning environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Teachers act as facilitators, guiding students through their learning journey.
• Indian Boards: Typically have a teacher-centered approach where the teacher is the primary source of knowledge. The learning environment is more structured and disciplined.
• International Boards: Promote a global perspective, helping students understand and appreciate different cultures and viewpoints. They prepare students for a globalized world by emphasizing international mindedness.
• Indian Boards: Focus more on national and regional contexts, with less emphasis on global perspectives. However, some boards like ICSE do incorporate elements of international education.
Highlights of International Education
1. Child-Centred: Focuses on the individual needs and interests of each student.
2. Concept-Based: Emphasizes understanding and applying key concepts across subjects.
3. Inquiry-Based: Encourages students to ask questions and explore topics deeply.
4. Action-Oriented: Promotes learning through real-world actions and projects.
5. Application-Based: Focuses on applying knowledge to practical situations.
Seamless Transition: By offering the IB-PYP in the early years and the Cambridge International Education in the later years, AGS ensures a seamless transition for students. They move from an inquiry-based, exploratory learning environment to a more structured and academically focused programme, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed for future success.
At AGS, we believe in providing the most suitable educational framework for each stage of a child's development. Our approach is designed to cater to the unique needs of students at different ages:
Nursery to Grade 5 – IB-PYP (Primary Years Programme)
• Inquiry-Based Learning: During the formative years, children are naturally curious and full of questions. The IB-PYP is an inquiry-based programme that nurtures this curiosity through conceptual learning, encouraging students to explore, ask questions, and develop a deep understanding while fostering a lifelong love for learning.
• Holistic Development: The PYP focuses on the overall development of the child, integrating academic, social, and emotional learning. It helps students build a strong foundation in critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Grade 6 to 10 – Cambridge International Education (CIE)
• Structured Curriculum: As students enter their teenage years, they need a more structured and rigorous curriculum to prepare them for the challenges of the world outside. The Cambridge International Programme offers a welldefined framework that emphasizes academic excellence and practical application of knowledge.
• Global Recognition: The Cambridge curriculum is globally recognized and respected, providing students with a strong academic foundation and opening doors to higher education opportunities worldwide.
You can refer the FAQs of PYP and Cambridge International under the academic section for clarity.
At AGS, we believe that International Education is not just for students who plan to study abroad. The Cambridge International Education IGCSE and A levels for our secondary school offers a broad and flexible curriculum that prepares students for a wide range of future opportunities, both in India and globally.
Yes, students can transfer to schools offering other boards, but the ease of transfer depends on the specific admission process of the receiving school. Here are some key points to consider:
Academic Transition
• Curriculum Alignment: While the curriculum and teaching methods may vary between boards, students from AGS are well-prepared to adapt due to the strong academic foundation provided by our programmes.
• Support and Guidance: AGS offers support and guidance to students and parents during the transition process to ensure a smooth academic adjustment.
Recognition and Certification
• Before Grade 10: Schools typically require a certificate from the Education Department confirming that the previous school is authorized to run the primary years. AGS holds this certification, ensuring that our students' education is recognized.
• Past Transfers: Over the years, several AGS students have successfully transferred to other schools within Mumbai and beyond, demonstrating the recognition and credibility of our programmes.
Admission Process
• School-Specific Requirements: Each school has its own admission criteria and process, which may include entrance exams, interviews, and submission of academic records. It is advisable to check the specific requirements of the school to which the student is transferring.
At AGS, we are committed to providing a high-quality education that is recognized and respected, making it easier for our students to transition to other educational boards if needed.
The IB office works closely with schools to ensure that students of all ages can transfer without problems. A student coming from an IB school is likely to be welcomed by other International schools. However, each International School has their own admission process.
At AGS, we ensure a smooth transition for students coming from different curricula. Here's how we support them:
Assessment and Placement
• Individual Assessment: Each child undergoes an assessment before admission, starting from kindergarten 2 onwards. This helps us understand their current academic level and learning needs.
• Appropriate Placement: We admit students only if we are confident, they can cope with our curricular requirements. In some cases, we may recommend placement in a lower grade than applied for or suggest additional support to ensure the child can thrive.
Support Systems
• Tailored Support: For students who need extra help, we provide special support both in school and at home. This includes personalized learning plans and additional resources to bridge any gaps.
• Continuous Monitoring: We continuously monitor the progress of new students to ensure they are adjusting well and meeting academic expectations. Regular feedback and communication with parents are part of this process.
At AGS, our goal is to make every student's transition as seamless as possible, providing the necessary support to help them succeed in our educational environment.
Parent Involvement
• Active Participation: We encourage parents to actively participate in their child's educational journey. This includes attending parent-teacher meetings, school events, and workshops to stay informed about their child's progress and school activities.
• Monitoring and Support: Parents play a crucial role in monitoring their child's academic and personal development at home. This involves providing a conducive environment for studying, encouraging good study habits, and supporting their child's learning needs.
• Communication: Open and regular communication between parents and teachers is essential. We expect parents to stay in touch with teachers to discuss their child's progress and address any concerns promptly
Homework Policy
• Purpose of Homework: Homework is designed to help students develop self-reliance, time management, and work skills. It reinforces classroom learning and provides opportunities for independent study.
• Types of Homework: Homework at our school is not limited to written assignments. It includes a variety of tasks such as reading assignments, project work, research, preparing for class discussions, and conducting interviews. This approach ensures a well-rounded learning experience.
• Age-Appropriate Assignments: The amount and complexity of homework increase as students advance in age and grade levels. We ensure that homework is age-appropriate and manageable, promoting a balanced approach to learning. AGS is not a project-based school.
• Homework Policy Details: Detailed information about our homework policy, including expectations and guidelines, will be provided to parents after admission.
At our international school, we believe that a strong partnership between parents and the school is key to a child's success. We value and appreciate the involvement and support of parents in fostering a positive and enriching learning environment for our students
At AGS, we integrate a diverse range of activities into our comprehensive educational programme. Our curriculum includes Visual Arts, Drama, Music, and Physical Education as core components. In addition to the mandatory sessions for these subjects, students also participate in various sports activities, Speech and Drama/Coding and Robotics and E-cube value-based classes.
Yes, AGS fosters an inclusive educational system. Currently, we have limited capabilities and evaluate admissions on a case-by-case basis. If your child has special needs (e.g., dyslexia, slow learning), please provide complete details during the application process. Failure to disclose this information may result in the cancellation of admission. We strive to provide the necessary support to ensure every child's success.
We recruit teachers who are graduates and postgraduates with mandatory professional degrees such as ECCED, B.Ed., and M.Ed. Additionally, we ensure our teachers receive timely IB and Cambridge training as needed. All our IB PYP teachers have completed their IB Professional Trainings.
We understand the importance of retaining our talented teachers and have implemented several strategies to ensure their satisfaction and professional growth:
• Supportive Work Environment: We foster a supportive and collaborative work environment where teachers feel valued and respected.
• Work-Life Balance: We promote a healthy work-life balance by providing flexible working conditions and wellness programs.
• Professional Development Opportunities: We provide continuous professional development opportunities, including workshops, seminars, and training programs, to help our teachers grow and advance in their careers.
By focusing on these areas, we ensure that our teachers are not only highly qualified and well-trained but also motivated and committed to providing the best education for our students.
